And, by the way, if you see something closer to YOUR home, please start a thread mentioning it. The more informed we all are, the better off we are....gardens and all.

BYBG, thank you so much for taking the time to post these updates. I'm not trying in any way shape or form to say "I told you so" to anyone, but I just had a feeling we were in for a rough spring. My husband thinks I'm nuts, my 22yo son is the same way, he can just tell.

I love to watch, read, and learn about weather patterns, which is why I usually take a few notes on my gardening calendar, so I can watch for things repeating themselves. I remember 2 springs like this one, both had tornado outbreaks on Easter Sunday. The first spring our family had just sat down to eat when the power went out. We were 10 miles from a tornado, all we got were some high winds, but still that was close.

As you tend to and prepare your garden this spring, take time to also prepare your home and family for bad weater. Consider preparing a backpack to keep where you can grab it in case you have to evacuate. Keep a few supplies in your car year round in case you are stranded. You can even keep a few supplies at your desk at work. If anyone needs any help on what to gather PM me I'll send you some links to get you started, it can be done for very little expense. Make a bad weather plan for your family, make a list of contact numbers and keep it handy, don't count on your cell phone, how many phone numbers do we know by heart these days?

Last year at our family's favorite camp grounds 20 people were killed in a flash flood at night. I'm not trying to depress or scare anyone, just make you pause to ask yourself "Am I prepared for an emergency?". My kids think I'm nuts when a storm is coming and we run outside and put away anything that could become a flying object, all the time reminding them about putting things away.

Ok, I'll stop, but please take the time to make a few preparations, just in case. Watch your weather, plan ahead, stay safe.

Go back farther in years and you will find this past fall, winter, and now spring are following the classic La Nina pattern....and a strong one this time to boot. It isn't scheduled to break loose for awhile longer. So, the harsh grip of winter and active weather patterns are the norm over the Midwest for the time being.

Google 'La Nina' and you will find a whole world of information to read up on.

Oh, I have, and her brother El Nino too. Also the hurricane patterns, how every 20 years we have a 10 year cycle of more frequent and stronger storms. Interesting stuff.

For you guys down there, either El Nino or La Nina brings in more hurricanes...I can never remember which. However, the other virtually shuts them off. They all get sheered off by the trade winds. Well, more of them do anyway.

And, for those watching this...

Don't let your guard down yet!! WINTER IS NOT OVER. The polar regions are still holding on to a LOT of cold air. That air has to release somewhere eventually. This leads to an active spring as the warm air in the mid-tropics builds and the cold air of the North Pole clash like titans....generally right over the Midwest! Well, either here or in Europe or Russia. Somewhere will get the brunt of it.

I put the Midwestern Frost Dates at less than 50/50. If your date is April 7th, like mine, I would say there's a better than 50% chance you will still see frost....this year.

Just sayin'...

Looks like only "spot" chances for us today/tonight. But, don't let your guard down east of us in STL.....this guy is supposed to strengthen a bit as it moves east.

The Humor Section..
So, a guy was playing golf with his buddies the other day. As it started to lightning, everyone took off for cover, except one guy trying to break his personal best. He grabbed his 2-iron. Instead of lining up his shot, he held the club straight up in the air.

His buddy yells, "Jim, do you want to die? Why would you hold a club up in the air like that when it's thundering?"

Jim replies, "Steve......everyone knows that even GOD can't hit a darned 2 iron."
