Looks like a good source, opinions?
Well it looks like I found a good source for a few more types of compost for my MM. I just wanted an opinion on which types seem like the best options to round out my mix. Would you think the "zoo brew" might be too chunky? I guess I'll find out when I go there Does anyone see any reason I shouldn't use any of the composts they offer?
They will sell by the 5 gallon bucket for $2, which is .66 cu ft. so that means about $3/cu ft. Sounds good to me?
Thanks for your input!

Re: Looks like a good source, opinions?
I like it Last year I was new to SFG and was hunting for compost etc. I went to a place in another state ( I live 10 miles from Louisiana) They have horse manure organic, nice little business, they also sell a veggie soil. I bought the veggie soil. I didnt use it like I liked but it grew my honey dew fine. I later found horse poo sources close to home and free. After all I spent the free one has made me happy. But to get me started I was happy to go get some from the paid place.

Zoo doo is great stuff!!!
The zoo near me has to have a lottery to sell it because it is in such demand. They never have enough to go around, so they thought a lottery was the fairest way.
I don't think it will be chunky if it has been properly composted.
I would buy a bucket of each. The more the better.

Re: Looks like a good source, opinions?
Thanks for the opinions, I will check it out and pick up some poo after work today
Edit to add: Do you think any of them might count as more than one type of compost? Just curious, I think I will have a healthy blend either way. I already have mushroom and cow manure, and will probably get the zoo, leaf, and barnyard compost.

Their mixes have a variety of good materials in them. When you get a blend, there's just no knowing the ratio of the materials. I think that you will end up with a great mix.
I found this farther down the page:
"As Midwest weather patterns trend toward less frequent but more intense rainfall events, adding compost becomes even more critical for your plants' health."
Granted, it's part of a sales pitch, but is there anything in that statement applicable to SFGers? Why does heavy rain make compost more important?

I suppose because heavy rain which saturates the soil/mix is more likely to leach out nutrients than the odd misty shower.
I intended covering my boxes for the winter but one was left uncovered and I consoled myself that since it was a solid block of ice for months on end then the chances are that nothing much got washed away!
