This is my first attempt at SFG. I am so glad I found this process and website. The good news is I have studied Mel's book, built my container, installed Mel's Mix, and planted my seeds and transplants. The bad news is I think I have an inferior copy of the book (it's short 100 pages) and it's going to snow! No worries though - I'm too excited about this to let these little snafus get in my way.

Hello from North Texas Empty More snow?!

Post  SirTravers 3/20/2010, 8:14 pm

Was it me or did the radar for our area just look foreign last night? I saw snow from just north of me here in Hobbs all the way up past Plainview last night. I think the SFG method will work really good for us folks on the south plains...and yes that copy of the book seems to be missing about 172 pages or so. Welcome to the group and please post your vermiculite source on the main vermiculite thread and also on the vermiculite thread in the south plains group.

Hello Daylily13,
Welcome to SFG and the Forum. Define North Texas? Where exactly are you? I'm in Frisco, Texas and we have several other Texas SFG'ers around here. --- Yes, it's snowing in the DFW metroplex at this very moment. Just over 24 hours ago it was 69 degrees! Got my SFG covered in 6 mil plastic and hoping for the best. My peach trees bloomed this week. I don't want to loose them because i was soooo looking forward to eating peaches out of my backyard this year. WHAAAAA! Sad

I posted the vermiculite source on the pages suggested. Hopefully, this will help someone find it in my area. I only had to drive about 2 miles to get it.

I'm in the North Fort Worth/Keller area so I'm seeing the same weather as you are in Frisco. Got a little sunburned this week when putting in the garden and now the garden is covered because of yesterday's snow.

Thanks for contributing to the Vermiculite Source page. ... I used to work in Keller. I'm pretty sure I've driven past that feed store a few times. ... Dang this snow! How much did you get at your house? We had 4 inches.

I should have said my garden's covered with a sheet, not snow. We got an inch of rain followed with less than an inch of snow. It was nice. Much different than the 11" on February 11th.

You're practically in my back yard! I'm in North Richland Hills near Rufe Snow and Hightower. Where is this feed store with the vermiculite? My neighbor and I are both needing some.

I will go search threads right now!

The feed store is located on Denton Hwy (377) just north of 1709 (Keller Pkwy). You might want to call first 817-431-2539. Good luck!
