Plants I've ordered for this year's SFG
I've been looking for something different, something new for me to try in the SFG this year.
I've found some stuff I thought would be cool to try.
A tomato called Monster Matoes suppose to getup to 12 inches round.
Zooming Zucchini, climbs, locks on and climbs up any surface
Everbearing Climbing Spinach, the more you pick the more the vine produces more leaves
Mammoth Cabbage, challenge the world record of 123 lbs
Mammoth onion challenge the world record of a 71/2 pound and measured 22 inch around
Rare climbing vine melon, taste like an Asian pear
Bush watermelons, vines just 3-31/2 long
Everglow strawberries big as peaches
King Kong strawberry, worlds biggest
Titan leeks as thick as a man's arm
What do you think? Anyone ever grow these?

Hi Josh!
Those all sound fantastic, and I've never heard of any of them....except that Zooming Zucchini sure sounds like rampicante. ;-) Please let us know how your plans go!!

Wow, those sound great! I hope you'll share pictures of your progress and your harvest. I'm curious, what's the name of the rare vining melon? My son LOVES asian pears, so I might give it a try. I don't usually grow melons because our farmer's market includes a guy who grows the best around, but I like to try exotic things. We're trying Lambkin melons this year. We haven't had any luck with the couple of melon varieties we tried in the past, mainly due to pests, so I plan to be vigilant.

Here is a link to the rare melon. It looks cool in the picture.

Neat list
That's a neat list, Josh.
I wonder if the everbearing climbing spinach might be Malabar spinach?

I wonder how many squares did you give your onion and cabbage, or did they get their own new box???
OH HAPPY DAY!!!!
My package of plants came today!!
I think these will need their own new boxes!
Now if the rain would just stop long enough for me to get them planted!
Re: Plants I've ordered for this year's SFG
Oh fun! You will just have to do it all in the rain, Josh.

Plants I've ordered for this year's SFG
Hi Josh,
I've been enjoying the posts of the beautiful flower garden you've been putting together. It looks like a dream garden. You're obviously a very talented young man and I look forward to seeing more of your gardening posts! Good luck breaking those world records for the cabbage and onions!!!

Re: Plants I've ordered for this year's SFG
Here's the update for these plants I ordered this year.
Looks like no world records for me this year
A tomato called Monster Matoes suppose to getup to 12 inches round.
( it has a lot of growing to do to get 12 inches round.)
Zooming Zucchini, climbs, locks on and climbs up any surface
(died)
Everbearing Climbing Spinach, the more you pick the more the vine produces more leaves
(this grew good, haven't tried eating any yet)
Mammoth Cabbage, challenge the world record of 123 lbs
(world record for the smallest maybe)
Mammoth onion challenge the world record of a 71/2 pound and measured 22 inch around
(just average size)
Rare climbing vine melon, taste like an Asian pear
(it's growing good in the tt, it's a small melon)
Bush watermelons, vines just 3-31/2 long
(bugs killed them)
Everglow strawberries big as peaches
(Didn't have strawberries this year, plants are growing good.)
King Kong strawberry, worlds biggest
(Didn't have strawberries this year, plants are growing good.)
Titan leeks as thick as a man's arm
(not as big as arm yet, thumb maybe)

Re: Plants I've ordered for this year's SFG
Lol, great update! I was kind of curious about how they would do. Seems like they over exaggerated on some of the details!
I'm kind of disappointed about the zucchini Climbing zucchinis sounded pretty cool.

Re: Plants I've ordered for this year's SFG
Josh, I expect the strawberries were first year plants, they should do better next year. Do you have runners off this year's plants?
