Starting Indoor Seedlings.
I'm 25 miles North of DC, and I want to try my luck at planting indoor seedlings this year and then transplanting them outdoors. I want to do tomatoes, some herbs, onions, and some peppers.
Does anybody live in this area who can tell me the best time to plant the seeds? I think our last frost is around April 29, but I am not sure how far in advance to plant seeds. Thanks.

According to the All New Squarefoot Gardening Book, page 254, if your last frost date is April 30
Tomatoes start indoor seeds 6 weeks before your last frost date, about March 19 , transplant to the garden just after your last frost date, just after April 30
Peppers start indoor seeds 7 weeks before your last frost date, about March 12, transplant to the garden 2 weeks after your last frost date, about May 14
Onions from seed, start indoor seeds 10 weeks before your last frost date, around Feb19, transplant 4 weeks before last frost date, about April 2
Onions from sets (little bulbs) get planted directly in the garden about 4 weeks before the last frost date so April 2 should be close.
