Frosty nights are really setting in now. Only had 5 frosty nights so far this Fall but the next few days are gonna add to that number.
So we harvested the Cabbage, Cauliflower, Broccoli, carrots, radishes, etc...

Very happy gardener.

My new garden area was so much fun and easy. I had a blast.

I gave a way a few heads of cabbage. Having some for dinner and lots to freeze.

what a radish.

i think this was cherriette? It normally does not grow like this but it was in the ground longer than it should of been so it kept on growing and growing. I have several new squares of radishes that are almost ready.

We have this really nice shredder that does an excellent job at shredding and chopping
garden debris up into really fine pieces which allows it to decompose faster. This machine is perfect for chopping up cabbage, broc, and cauliflower stalks. Originally used for chopping small tree limbs through the small funnel at the base of the machine. Leaves go through the large upper section. And I have 30 bags of leaves and 7 bales of straw to run through the shredder. Thats goin to make the garden very happy.

Dinner= fried smoke sausage, stir fried cabbage in the sausage drippings and butter seasoned with garlic herb, cauliflower with velveeta cheese sauce. Was very yummy.
My cabbage and cauliflower is slightly sweet compared to store bought.

So this is a big pile of shredded cabbage and broccoli leaves and stalks that was ran through my big red friend.

DH found us a NICE chipper/shredder on Craig's list -cheap. Almost brand new and looked new.

I'm glad to know the juices in fresh veggies don't gunk up the chipper/shredder. I may try it if DH will agree. He's protective over his toys! lol

Funny, but I never even thought to run greens through the shredder, I've always just used it on the browns. The greens usually disappear so much faster it never even crossed my mind, but I've definitely had some broccoli stalks last longer than I wanted/expected!

I think it would probably be wise to run a few browns through after doing a bunch of greens in order to "dry out" the shredder. Carolyn, do you run browns through after, or is it not worth the bother?

The veggie juices didn't clog or bog down the machine but what juices are in the cutting section can be cleaned up also. On this machine, the exit neck can be removed so you can unjam or unclog the cutting blades if anything was to get stuck.

lol camprn. it was on my christmas list for a long time. finally got it last year.
I was not lucky enough to find a used one or lucky enough to find one on sale somewhere. Bought this one brand new at a place called Tractor Supply for $650. I sure hope I get $650 dollars worth of mulch out of it. It does chop dry leaves very fine--prettiest stuff you ever saw. Like a child in a candy store.

I must have leaves on the brain cause I dreamed I came across a field of leaves and was excited. " A field of leaves and no tree in sight" Funny.

oh yeh, women can have and claim toys and be boss over their toys just like men do.

My garden bed will be my composter. I will not grow any plants in the bed for 3 months during the winter. The chopped veggie leaves and stalks will be mixed into the existing soil.
This machine chops it so fine that it will decompose and be ready for Spring planting.
