Just wanted to say hi. This is my second year square foot gardening and I am very excited. Last year was superb! I have learned so much already.

Howdy John and welcome. Do you have any "lessons" learned from your first year that you could pass on to folks just starting out? If you were to start over what (if anything) would you do differently?

God Bless, Ward.

Hi from the Great Salt Lake. Empty Lessons

Post  jbarrus 3/3/2010, 11:57 am

Lesson #1 - Use good compost! Can't over state this.

Most of the things I have learned are just the dig in and get your hands dirty types of things. The hands on experience. Not sure quite how to enumerate them.

I have to say this. I hate yard work. I hate to mow and edge the lawn. It is a chore and a bore. However, I love to work in my garden! I could spend all of my evenings and my weekends in the garden. I love it! I love spending the time with my kids. I love that they love to eat the vegetables that they have helped to grow. They each get their own box to plant and tend this year. I will help them, I don't want it to become a burden, but they will plant what they want and water and harvest their own boxes! Good times!

Thanks for the replies! Good luck to everyone!
