Fall Asparagus Planting?
Gurney's has a sale on asparagus plants, 30 for $14.99. Good price, but does anyone know if fall planted asparagus will have time to establish and overwinter in the PNW? It is a combination of three varieties. They are listed as 1 year medium grade and 2 yr heavy grade??????? What does this mean?
The person I spoke to seemed to be unsure and making up answers. I am not confident in what was told to me.
Any information or suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: Fall Asparagus Planting?
I bought asparagus roots on a whim, and planted last spring. They came up quickly, and I just let them grow. They are about 4' tall now.
From what I have gathered, it takes 3 years from seed to get a good yield. The 2 yr heavy likely mean that they are large 2 year old roots (that's what I got as I remember).
The price is good. I think I paid that for a dozen roots.

Re: Fall Asparagus Planting?
I just ordered mine this morning! I'm going to plant them as soon as I get them. We'll see what happens.
I had some already that I got at Menard's in the spring for next to nothing. They seem to be doing ok even though I've ignored them. I did just move them to their own bed with MM, they were just in my nasty old dirt all summer.

Can't Find the Sale
Furbalsmom,
I went to the Gurney's site, but couldn't find the sale. Is it over now?
Can you post a link to the sale?
Asparagus is on my 'plant as soon as possible' list.
Thanks,
Betty

Gurney's says I need a 'keycode'
When I called Gurney's to order by phone, they said I needed a 'keycode' that should be posted at the bottom of the original email about this sale.
aub,- Thanks for posting the link. Do you see a keycode on your email?
They said I needed that to get them for the sale price. Otherwise I would be charged the regular $50.00.

Betty- There is no way I need all of the plants. Do you want to split it? I should have it in a week or so. E-mail me.

Re: Fall Asparagus Planting?
Just a "helpful suggestion" ...
If your going to share personal contact information, send it via PM, or break it up with spaces or characters "b o b @ aol.com", or "Ihate spambots: bob @aol.com"
There are a million BOT's out there that fish through forums for this kind of info and add you to all types of maling/call list that you probably don't want to be on.
Just a suggestion though
