Planting Asparagus seedlings.
Hi all. I had square foot gardens a few years ago, but unfortunately they were destroyed when house foundation repairs were required. A drainage ditch had to be dug, etc, etc. Anyhow, my mother passed away 4 years ago, and for 3 of those 4 years, my health suffered. To make a long story short, i am just starting up square foot gardening again, and planted asparagus seeds this spring. they are still in flats now. They are small, but look healthy. Should I bother planting them this year? Or try again next year with fresh roots/seedlings?

Hi Cherbear,
I planted bare root “plants” this spring, so I would think it would be fine to put them in now. When is your first frost date?

I would probably wait for them to go dormant this fall, and then plant them. If they sprout next spring, which they probably will since Asparagus is very hard to kill, then you will have some good plants started. If they don't sprout next spring, you could purchase some roots from one of the big box store to plant in their place and then have new plants ready.

Re: Planting Asparagus seedlings.
Thank you for the replies. Our first frost date is usually not until mid-October. We have frost risks up until now though, twice. Who knows what will happen this year? It's very...weird.
