German Giant (Parat) radishes
One of my favorite radish varieties is German Giant, also known as Parat. They grow to very large size without getting too hot or woody. They aren't winter radishes but I planted some in our fall garden, nine to a square.
I picked two last night from our late garden that were the size of large beets and they were still buttery-tasting with a wonderful texture and just a hint of heat. Last night's supper for me was a radish and butter sandwich. Mmm, good.
I used four slices of radish on my half sandwich, Hubby ate some in his salad, and we still have a third of a radish left.

Re: German Giant (Parat) radishes
I never have good luck with radishes. It seems they always do get way to hot or not a great texture. I would love to give these a try. Where did you get your seeds?

Seeds
I've found them several places in the past - Shumway's and Baker Creek Heirlooms are the most recent places I purchased them.
I always plant the little Cherry Belle radishes in early spring because they are the first thing that is ready to harvest, but I plant German Giant/ Parat along with them for my main eating radishes. They always get large, but they've never grown as large as these we planted in the fall.
