How long does it take to grow nice onion sets from seed?

CP: I don't know. I'm still waiting for mine to sprout. Maybe all of this rain will have them up in a day or two.

The sets that we put in in the spring did well for green tops and the bulbs were small and tastey. Some bulbs that we did not harvest have resprouted with some green tops now 8 inches tall. Maybe the bulbs will be bigger the second time around.God Bless, Ward and Mary.

i grew some onion sets from seed and it took about 3 months to get them to the size of about a dime, maybe a bit larger. then they just kind of sat in their tight shallow container for most of the summer. I put them in the ground at the beginning of September, they are growing nicely. I think I should have put them in the ground sooner though. The race is on. lots o

I am growing Yellow Granex onions from seed.
I have already sown my seed in a bed to get them germinated
and wanted to thin them out and transplant them sometime in March.
But someone else gave me some information about Granex that i did
not know.
Yellow Granex is a short day onion. Similar to Vidalia. They said that it only takes 4 months to grow this onion to maturity from seed. It does not make a good
onion set.(so they say and I have no idea why not) They also said that I should sow the seed late Fall and would have onions by Mar-Apr. Wow!!!!!!!!!!!! All this info after I have sown 2000 seeds. (most for profit).
Selling the onion plants in bundles would be good too......but it seems I have sown the seed too early.

Onions have me confused. I thought they grew slow through the winter even with the
short day variety.

additional information---and correction

In zone 8 in GA
yellow granex is sown 1st of Oct
Transplanted to the fields in Nov- Dec
Harvested Apr-May

So that is 6 to 7 months to grow granex onions

I can have bundles of onion plants to sell with tomato produce in Dec.
