I don't have an answer for you but a suggestion to try posting in your regional forum. Maybe you can get info on a local resource. Otherwise, try looking on-line. Sorry I can't be more helpful, but I hate when someone gets no response at all and I didn't want to leave you hanging.

I always get mine from either plant nurseries or the feedstore at the right planting time (which is Jan-Mar) here. Onions grow according to the length of days, so need to be planted at a time when the days are growing longer.

Belfry - can you plant them in the fall to have the next spring? I was given leeks last year and they overwintered - obviously onions are related, but do they work the same way?

I have the Territorial Seed Company Winter 2010 catalog. Listed for summer planting for a winter harvest are at least 8 types of onions, 29 types of garlic and 7 types of shallots. Looks good for planting now.
