South Florida SFG's in Dade or Broward County....
I've searched all over for Mel's Mix ingredients. I found 4 cu ft vermiculite for about $ 18 and Peat, but I'm having trouble with the 5 part compost. For those in the Dade/Broward area, what different compost's did you find and where? I can find cow manure compost at lowes and home depot, but no others any where else. I can also get all the horse manure for free but it is fresh not composted. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Hi buy4now,
I don't live anywhere near you so I don't have ideas for various composts, but I had the same problem myself this year when I was starting up. I ended up using the peat, vermiculite, cow manure compost and some of my own soil, and have been paying the price since with doing fertilizing and so forth. That being said... my garden has been a runaway success overall. I'm sure with the 5 composts it would have been better, but don't let lacking them stop you from trying.
I would take the horse manure, but use it to start your own compost pile. Don't put it in your garden because it will not help there until it's had time to cook.
Also, that is a FANTASTIC price for vermiculite... please add it to our database!
Welcome and please keep us updated on how it's going!
