Please don't tell me this is your first year SFG
. Though, if you did tell that, that would be very encouraging...
This is a kick ass harvest, absolutely amazing! I wish more people of your age got into gardening, maybe we finally get some peace on this planet then!

Re: Today's Harvest
Absolutely beautiful! I love all the shapes and colors and it's a good thing since we're not tasting any of that bounty!
Please dish on your potatoes. Did you have 12" x 12" hgih rise boxes and use one per square or did you do a box that surrounded three squares?... or other? In other words, how did you do that? I'm impressed! Did you do a highrise and if so how? What did you cover them with?
Thanks, Ellen

Squashes are sneaky. You can't take your eyes off of them for a minute. Looks fantastic - it's no Josh, but pretty good. I never tire of veggie picks.

Re: Todays Harvest...yes... I'm showing off
I took all those enormous crookneck squashs, took the seeds out, shredded them and dehydrated them. I like to use zucchini shredded when i make meatballs or meatloaf, it makes it lighter, so i'll just rehydrate some this winter when cooking, should be a good experiment because who can eat all those squash and the little ones are always better for sauting.

I was watching the video and I am wondering - do you think you got the bulk of your potatoes from the bottom 6 inches of the bed? That is what it looked like to me, but I may be mistaken. I am still trying to plan how I am going to plant next year and how much space to use, but potatoes are definitely one of my favorite vegetables to grow.
Re: Todays Harvest...yes... I'm showing off
chopper there was a lot in the bottom 6 inches, the second harvest there were some in the first high rise, maybe cause they were left to grow for a longer time. And I forgot to say we added a mix of old leaves and straw and rabbit poop to the high rise boxs.
Re: Todays Harvest...yes... I'm showing off
Josh,
You certainly have a wonderful garden. How many square feet do you have in all? Seems like you would have to have a lot of boxes to produce a crop that large!
Congrats!

Re: Today's Harvest... yes... I'm showing off
Thanks a bunch for answering my barrage of questions. The video was most helpful. I'm such an urbanite! Seeing those beautiful potatoes coming out of that soil looked unreal like you planted full-grown store bought potatoes in your garden just to fool us. Just laughing at myself here.
One more thing.. I LOVED the toad croaking in the background!
Thanks again. I'm emboldened to plant and grow, plant and grow....
Ellen

Re: Todays Harvest...yes... I'm showing off
Shoda we started off with three SFGs and we've added SFGs each year. My mom,dad and me have a 4 x 4 SFG that we each plant something different in each square, and then we have special SFGs.
We have a 3x6 just for potatoes
a 4 x 4 for 5 blackberry plants
3-2x3 SFGs for blueberries
a 4x4 with a strawberry tree for the strawberries
a 5x5 for corn
a 4x4 with a wooden arbor trellis for the climbing plants
a 4x4 three layered SFG for a mix of flowers, veggies, and herbs
a 1 x 8 for 8 tomato plants
a 4 x 8 raised SFG that has variety of plants in it
and a little 3x4 SFG pond

Mom2Four here is the croaking frog, when you walk by him he croaks, the dog walked by him when we were pulling out the potatoes. He sits by the little sfg pond

You have such a beautiful garden, Josh, and what a great harvest!
How do you like the mushroom beans? Do they really taste like mushrooms?

Today's Harvest
You know when you see a picture of a radio host and it looks NOTHING like how you pictured them? That toad just doesn't match his hansome croak! LOL!
Seriously, thanks for posting the pic of Mr. Toad. You had me fooled!
Disillusioned in San Diego,
Ellen
