Hello from West Texas
Hello to everyone from SUNNY West Texas.
I am a NEW gardner (or will be as soon as I can get all the material together to build the beds and the supplies to make some of Mel's mix). Other than tomatoes and peppers, mostly in pots, I have never gardened before due to the lack of space (I thought!). I recently found Mel's latest book and thumbed through it and decided a SFG is exactly what I need!
I can hopefully get it done in time to have some fall vegetables. We have a long growing season here.

Where can I find compost?
I haven't started looking in earnest, yet, but I haven't been able to locate any type of compost other than cow manure. I think I can get all of the oterh stuff fairly easily.
Can anyone steer me toward some sources of good blended compost or somewhere I can get at least 5 dofferent types as recommended by Mel for his mix?

Howdy
Howdy from "a few miles west" of ya. I'd check with the local feed stores. If they are a fertilome dealer they can get the vermiculite that Sungro makes. You might check the cotton gins for some of their old, "spoiled" cottonseed hulls (the dark piles).
Here's a few of the stores you could check...
