recommended plants for west Texas Empty Varieties for West Texas (or anywhere else in TX)

Post  Docwas 8/7/2015, 12:13 am

If you go to the TAMU Horticulture web site, there is a link to vegetable varieties best suited for Texas.  You can input the county you live in and it will give you a list of recommended varieties for almost every vegetable.  I assume other state agricultural extension sites have similar web links for their states.

404 not found. The post is not that old either. Oh well.

I'm not one who knows one area of Texas from another, but it tends to make me think hot and dry or hot and humid.

Does anyone growing in a hot place like Texas, especially a hot and dry area but whatever, have a favorite lettuce for hot weather growing? I'm tired of trying to grow good greens that get bitter or stunted in our long, hot, dry summers.

Here is the link -

Click on Vegetable Resources and there will be a link to varieties.

Concerning growing lettuce in hot weather, I don't think you can.  Plant lettuce between September through mid March, with some variation depending on where you are in Texas.  There are basically 4 different gardening zones in Texas, so you have to know when to plant for your zone.
