Hi!! I'm in West Texas half way between Lubbock and Abilene. I'm new to gardening. Well, pritty much. We tried a small garden a few years ago but something happened and the whole garden died.It was coming along great and we were beginning to harvest then we think some bugs ate the roots. Don't know for sure. We worked SO hard on it too. So we took a year off and decided we would make some raised beds then I came across the book Square Foot Gardening and thought it looks neat. So we are anxious to get started on building our beds and getting our garden planted.

oh, welcome!! so glad you found us!

this is the best (i think *grin*) way to garden - it's truly SO EASY! the secret is the blend of dirt - 1/3 vermiculite, 1/3 peat moss, and 1/3 a blend of at least 5 diff composts. once you have that, the rest is so simple.

bugs might get you again, but the nice thing about this method, it's unlikely to get all your plants. maybe just one - and you'll catch it. because there's so little work involved you'll be more on top of it and notice faster. i know i see when i have little green worms on my broccoli and get rid of them before they eat the whole plant. . . (just an example)

again so glad you found this forum. dive in and post your questions and observations - i learn new things daily from other gardeners.

i'm a newbie - been doing sfg for one year now. we're expanding this year. Smile
