Composting Diseased Pea Plants
I think I am going to give up on my pea plants as they now have powdery mildew on most of the foliage and the snow peas are very, very bitter. Is it safe to compost these or do I need to toss them in the trash?
Re: Composting Diseased Pea Plants
I think they need to be trashed.... I just checked the EPA's recommendations on what to compost, and they say any diseased plants should not be added to your compost, as the disease can then spread to other plants when you use the compost.

Thanks. I didn't know there was a website to check on that! You are a great resource.
Re: Composting Diseased Pea Plants
I never would have thought to look there. I read Wyld's post and my first thought was: 'not that EPA?!'
Re: Composting Diseased Pea Plants
EPA isn't my favorite federal agency.... but it was the first result when I did a yahoo-search.
Besides, what they say makes sense in this case!
They agree with VegWeb.com, too.
