broccoli plant disease on newly planted baby plants bought at garden shop.
Last week I planted broccoli plants that I purchased at Home Depot. The leaves now have yellow and brown burned looking edges. A web site showed a picture of what I have and called it black rot. What can I do?

Hi Lois and welcome to the SFG forum.
I personally would dig them out and return them for a refund and go buy replacements from a reputable nursery. Gardening is tough enough without importing diseased plants.

it could also be from transplant shock. Can you post a photo?

I've also noticed that brassicas are prone to transplant shock. Once I transplanted some kale into a shady area for summer, and it looked sickly for a couple of weeks. Then it perked up and thrived!
Something similar happened last spring when I transplanted a few broccoli sprouts I'd started from seed. It was a slow process, but I ended up with a healthy plant, one small-to-medium-sized head, and ongoing baby fleurettes for salad.

Diseased broccoli plants
They have "black rot". I dug them up and plan to return them.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Maybe I was just lucky with my brussels sprouts transplants, but they adapted quickly to the two different yards/soils I planted them in, and eventually even to the regular and the fabric pot I put two of them in after the first one was stolen away by gophers and another ravaged down to its last leaf. All told, that's four different soils and general growing conditions. My friend has planted dozens of BS's and cabbage transplants, and his are thriving too.
FWIW, we have had rainy weather and days rarely higher than 70 for the last month. Maybe those mild conditions helped the brassicas not be too stressed upon transplant.
