You Rock. Those are great! Thank you so much for posting them. I hope lots of newbies will take a look at what you've down. Your cell phone sure takes nice pictures! Your boxes look deep. Are they 8"? I like the corners.

Keep posting more pics as you progress.

My Garden Pictures Empty box's

Post  choksaw 3/11/2010, 12:11 am

the box's are actualy made out of $2 2x4's from lowes regular pine the water proofing i used has a cedar tint to it makeing it look like cedar cause i like the keep wood looking as natural as i can. the boxs are 10 1/2 inchs deep due to the fact that i plant to plant carrots onions garlic and scallions. i left the corners a little bit taller then the box because i have an idea about makeing a cage covering that will slide in between the corners to make a secure wire lid to keep cats and other critters out of the boxs till they are established

The grids were made useing wood lath purchased at lowes (unfortunatly pressure treated) useing half inch wood screws to attach them to each other and to the box itself

12 2x4's were used to make the boxs and another 6 were used to make the trellis which i will post up tomorrow when i have day light to take pictures so a total of 18 2x4's at $2.05 a piece for the lumber all in all i think so far the total building cost comes to roughly $50 for lumber, screws and waterproofing not too bad for 2 boxs

forgot to point out that since both my beds will be sitting attop a concrete slab i used some of the scrap lath under the corners to shim them about 1/4" off the ground so that water has some where to drain out so it doesnt pool in the box and rott the wood or kill the plants

now once my vermiculite i ordered comes in ill be all set to make the soil its the last ingredient im waiting on

and yes the red car in the backround is mine and was used to haul the lumber and supplies home she didnt like me that day lol too bad the truck behind her has no brakes or i would have used it instead

TY for all the nice compliments sometime si just come up with ideas and viola greatness happens some times not so great lol

Post  new2this 3/17/2010, 7:54 am

thanks for posting your pictures....those boxes really look nice.

Not sure if I missed it, but how tall are your trellises?

Also, I'm assuming you can get some pretty good gusts of wind where you're at. Even up here in MN we can get some nasty summer storms. I've been thinking that a tall trellis would just rip off the box......obviously I'm very new to this. Did you simply hold the poles to the box with a few wood screws? That'll hold up, huh? My Garden Pictures Icon_redface

I really like your design - very nice.
