Woodfire ashes in compost

We often use our fire pit & I am assuming I would be able to through the ashes into my compost, but I just wanted to get some confirmation first. I would hate to add it, only to have to start my compost over.

I do have mildly acidic soil and I use minimal amounts of wood ash directly in the soil to sweeten (raise the pH) it a bit. I do not add it to my compost.
Now that being said, I will probably add it to my 'trash' compost pile which is made of mostly evergreen needles, which are quite acidic, and will probably stay in that pile for a few years.

I didn't read the article so I may be mentioning something that is in the article. You may already know this. If you use any chemical to start you fire in your fire pit, you should not use the ash in your garden.
