I planted my SFG in March (approx 15th) and am enjoying lots of pole beans now. I'm watching my tomatoes to see if they produce. My carrots are not doing much. What I have learned is that some of what I planted were cool weather veggies more geared toward planting in the fall here. During the hot summer months, we don't see prime growing time here. I'd love to hear from others in the area. What have been your experiences?

Welcome! I'm a relative newcomer to this site and to SFG...I'm a little north of you (between Tallahassee and Pensacola) in zone 8a, so it's a little slower to get super hot here than in your area, I think. I just built a couple of boxes only three weeks ago and also planted some veggies that will do better when it's cooler...ooops. I did cheat and buy plants for about half of them, but only a few of the seeds I planted are just now coming up. So I'm not expecting a lot from some of them, even though I'm busy putting up shade cloth over my beds in preparation for the above 90* temps (which we've had a few days of already). I'm just having fun and will consider this first season a major learning experience! I haven't planted pole beans yet but would like to within a week or two, as I build more boxes. I'm really trying to keep it small the first year like everyone recommends, but it's hard...I just want to try everything!

Smile
