Hey Y'all from 9B
9B Newbie here in Jacksonville, FL. I ran across some information about SFG and I was curious, especially since I just purchased 2 very small elevated raised beds. SFG also appeals to me since I have very limited space and also don't want to run afoul of the HOA! I'm glad to know you all are here.

Welcome to the forum from Ohio, Shoreglo! Your situation sounds perfect for SFG! Have you read Mel Bartholomew’s book on Square Foot Gardening? I have the 2nd edition, but there is at least one more out since then. Very helpful for spacing, compost, etc.
Looking forward to hearing more about what you want to achieve!

Shoregirl, Welcome to the Forum from California. As Scorpio mentioned, the 2nd or 3rd All New Square Foot Gardening book is the best way to learn about SFG. Table top beds are usually deeper than the 6-7" of Mel's Mix that is used. If that is how yours are, you can use an inert fill such as washed sand (from a root know nematodes-free source!) or well-draining topsoil, for the bottom part and just top with the Mel's Mix. Mulch such as E-Z Straw with Tack from Tractor Supply and shade cloth can help (if the HOA will allow shade cloth).
I recommend that newbies check with their county Ag Extension or Master Gardeners for a local vegetable planting guide. Here is the one for Florida divided into 3 general zones. https://gardeningsolutions.ifas.ufl.edu/plants/plant-of-the-month/infographics.html?fbclid=IwAR1BfDQO_yMbH0BshQoGEhRnTVhmuCgf1sAMGiElRtLqa8uAww6ZBr0uSaY#!/-1/
