I would like to get in a brick and mortar shop as opposed to online. I know some of the big box stores have it, but I'm just drawing a blank right now. Will Home Depot have them?

Hi Maya... Are you looking for just the bulbs, or for the whole fixture? For bulbs, definitely they should have them at Home Depot or Lowes... (or one of my least favorite places - WalMart) or failing that, look in a craft store like Michaels, which sells Ott-lights, which are full spectrum. If you have a regular lighting store (that isn't part of a chain) they may have these as well, but it would be best to call ahead and ask.

Pet stores will also have them - look in the aquarium section or reptile section.

Home Depot carries them in with the regular fluorescent tubes. They will say plant/aquarium or just plant on the package.
I just use one cool tube and one warm tube because in my horticulture classes we were told there would be little if any difference and it is a less expensive way to go. The tubes need to be replaced about every 6 months because although they look bright enough to use they will no longer give out sufficient light for plants.

I bet your local hardware shop would have them as well.

I got mine at Menards... on the package they stated they were "Aquarium lights" or "Grow Lights". Only about $7 and bought two.

Good luck finding them-shouldn't be too difficult!

I bought a cheapo shop light at Lowe's that didn't get anything built for it to hang on.. ended up just resting the ends on a couple of coolers with the peat pots underneath, and I got 1 cool white and 1 warm white bulb for it. I am happy to say this was the first year EVER I have had sucess growing seeds under lights....Good Luck !!

Hey thanks to all the replies...I already got my lights at Home Depot, but I ended up getting regular fluorescents that were close to day lighting. Man this is becoming more like an obsession rather than a hobby. What started out as just wanting to grow some veggies to eat so I'm not paying for them all the time is now evolved into building a seedling greenhouse in my basement. It's starting to get high tech over here folks.

Thanks,

Boy do I know this feeling !! You have had such good success it only fuels that fire Smile I've learned to germinate in vermiculite this year. I have seeds that were just not doing well in direct method. Two years in a row I have wanted a rainbow mix of bell peppers. This is the 3rd year. I finally have 3 seeds germinating and see two for sure coming up. Im truly serious about providing this part of our food to our home. The green house cross my fingers this fall Smile Knowing you can take care of yourself and not depend on the stores is a good feeling. Keeps my dollars for something else.
Let us know how it all goes
