Greetings from Rural Virginia
I have spent the last two years clearing our property (the previous owners left a LOT of junk) and preparing it for use. I have also been searching for a local dealer for the vermiculite that long! The first year we were here, Southern States offered to order it for me, but then they said they couldn't get it from any of their suppliers. Most people just looked at me like I was crazy, saying, "you want what?" or "what is that?". Lowes finally started carrying the 8qt bag this year, but trying to calculate how many 8qt bags are needed for 4 cubic feet has been something of a challenge. I considered ordering it online, but the shipping doubled the price.
Patience paid off, though, another member posted just today that a store about an hour from us sells the 4 cubic foot packages of vermiculite!! I'm so excited and can't wait to go pick some up!
We hope to have a lot of gardens for various fruits, vegetables, and flowers. We also hope to get chickens, rabbits, and goats. I'm really looking forward to making good use of our land and being more self-sufficient. I'm also hoping Mel's mix and SFG will turn my thumb green. I'm a notorious plant killer!

Hi Anianna,
Welcome to the forum and thanks for the feedback. I'm glad you were able to make use of the vermiculite postings; I hope to get them more organized in the near future,
I can relate to cleaning up a piece of property. It's amazing what folks will throw out in their woods to be rid of it. After ten years I still find the occasional piece of trash.
The SFG method has turned a lot of brown thumbs green. Get the book, follow the directions, plant, water, and wait. Presto! Green stuff!
We'd like to see some pictures too when you get going.
