What DON'T I want in my 5 different composts
HI,
Can you please tell me what I should absolutely, positively, avoid when I buy my 5 different composts.
Thats the only thing I have left to buy.

Dani, Read the contents on the bags. You do not want composts with fillers such as sand, perlite, peat moss and un-composted wood or bark fines. Also, rocks, wiring, bottle caps. Yes, folks have found these in bagged compost. Be prepared to screen bagged compost. Some folks use 1/4" hardware cloth over a wood frame. For small batches, I use a gold miner's 1/4" screening pan.
If there is peat moss, you will need to back off on the peat moss component to compensate. Coast of Maine Lobster Quoddy is an example of an expensive compost with quite a bit of peat moss.
If you have any doubts, let us know what brands and sources you find. We will try to help evaluate. This thread shows some of the composts that folks have found.
