Potato first time in mels mix
So, coming into potato season here, cold nights warm days.
Should be planting out some potato's in the next few weeks
After some tips or recommendations on how to work it in the sfg
Got some deep containers that are foot and a half deep

Re: Potato first time in mels mix
You only need deep containers for late season (indeterminate) potatoes. They will grow potatoes at 2-3 layers as the stem is buried. Even then, there is a limit as to how tall is too tall and how much of the life-giving green tops can be buried.
This is my first year using seed potatoes and growing in a table top bed. Prior to this spring, I have only grown small reds from eye sections in 5-gallon buckets of 11" of Mel's Mix with varying results. Mel's video shows planting 4 per bucket.
I always planted 2" deep because I thought the potatoes developed below the eye or seed potato. Docwas explained that potatoes grow above the eye/seed potato, so plant deeper.
This year, I put 4 eyes of store potatoes in the left 5-gallon bucket at 4" and one Yukon gold seed potato in the right bucket.

In the 6-7" of Mel's Mix in the table top bed, I planted 3 seed potatoes 2" from the plywood bottom.

Awesome, i have my 2ft wide tubs and they are about ft and a half deep
Guess going by your bucket i can do 8 per tub?
Typically i plant potatoes about 10 inches down in conventional growing

Re: Potato first time in mels mix
The buckets are 12" diameter. In the 5-gallon buckets, the 4 single eyes are 6" apart and 3" from the sides. Hope that helps. The depth is 10" and I think I set the eyes 5-6" deep.
