What is the best mesh netting for bug proofing?
What is the best mesh netting for bug proofing a raised bed and where to buy it? I've bought some but it tears easily. There are so many kinds that it gets confusing and preferably not wanting the ends to fray/unravel when its been cut. Thanks

Most people here use bridal tulle, available at Michaels. Wait for a 50% off any regular price item coupon (almost always going on).Jas wrote:What is the best mesh netting for bug proofing a raised bed and where to buy it? I don't do this, but somebody will be along soon to answer your other questions.

While delicate, I use bridal tulle year after year for winter crops. (Zone 9A) I buy the 108" width on sale at Joann's Fabrics. Oversize is better than try to sew or pin 2 pieces together.I hand wash and hang dry, pin it's label back on and store until October when it starts all over again.
Drying.

Here is a 4 ft x 8 ft bed covered with Bridal Tulle. I don's seem able to keep mine from tearing like Sanderson. I can only use them for about 2 years but I use mine for one bed and start Broccoli in the spring, then Squash in the summer, then Broccoli again in the fall so they stay up for a long long time. Jimmy Cee used some stronger cloth but the openings were not as small as Tulle but he said it worked for him. I never tried it.
I have bought different covers over the years but almost always they are not 108 " which is needed to go over a 4 foot wide bed.

Thank you all for your input! I've looked on Amazon and found the 108" x 50 yards tulle which will cover 2 and more of my beds. FYI Sanderson, I've had my husband build your model of PVC framing and was looking for the best option to cover it. Thanks for all your helpfulness

I'm still waiting for the tulle to arrive, so it's a work in progress!

I use this mesh recommended by Jimmy Cee. It tough and does an excellent job keeping bugs out.
I got at Joann with the 50% coupon.

Re: What is the best mesh netting for bug proofing?
I think Jimmy's mesh fabric is easier to sew pieces together. Unlike bridal tulle.
