SR, Thank you. I got the 2nd round of Blue Lake beans planted and carefully mulched with E-Z straw between rows.

These are amazing!  I'd love another 8x2 bed for my patio, but I'd have to remove the pots with the tomatoes.

Sanderson..  Last year I was paying about $13.00 for the EZ Straw. This year I paid $16.00 for it thanks to the Poot'n  inflation.   Very Happy

Sanderson's Table Top Beds - Page 2 Empty Re: Sanderson's Table Top Beds

This post is just what I needed. It's cooling down (it's only 109F today and I will take that over 113 any day). I can build soon. I haven't done this before so I have a question. If I am making a bed that will lay on a 48" x 48" piece of plywood, would my boards need to be 48" on top and 48" on bottom, and the sides each 45" so that it will fit on the plywood? Is that correct? Thank you for the important note about that. I didn't even think about it. This thread is like gold to me. Thank you!  Sanderson's Table Top Beds - Page 2 3170584802

If the plywood is 48" x 48", 2 sides of the 2"x8" lumber will be cut to 48" and 2 ends will be cut to 45" or 45 1/2".  Measure the actual thickness of the boards.  They used to be 1 1/2" but some recently have been a tad thinner.  I recommend drilling pilot holes so the boards don't split.

It just so happens that I am having to replace the bed.  The plywood bottom was sagging in the center and had 2 holes leaking Mel's Mix.  Getting 7 years from 3/4" plywood is good.

The underneath frame will be laid flat instead of on edge.  On edge is stronger but it would be too high for the neighboring beds.  That will be a last minute decision. The plywood bottom will be 4' x 3' 3".  The interior will be 45" x 36".  That's just the logistics because there is a closed lawn sprinkler in the corner and instead of wood legs, I will be using four (4) cement blocks 8"x8"x16" on end.  So I will have to set the blocks down on the other side of the sprinkler.

Day 1 - Disassembling the bed.

Got it. Thanks. I went online to try to find out the width and someone had posted a picture of someone measuring a 2 x 8 x 8. Turns out it was actually 1.5 x 7 x 8. I'll just take my measuring tape with me and hopefully get it right.

Progress on the replacement table top bed.  I'm assembling new driplines and just finished customizing the PVC frame.  More photos tomorrow.
