every year is different...
Here in Maryland, I like to direct seed early spring vegetables like lettuce and peas, around mid-March. But this has been one of those years where we just did not have a spring, so my plants are stunted. I had frost on my windshield 4 days ago, followed by 93-degrees today! The photo above shows what it looked like exactly one year ago (when we had a spring). And the photo below shows what it looks like today. Oh well, I have high hopes for my summer plants!

Mike, This seems to be the spring of delay. When I look a photos of my garden in prior years, my current plants look so stunted in comparison. Good to see you.

Same here, Mike. My avatar is last year’s lettuces before transplanting out, they are sooo much bigger than this year, plus my direct seeded stuff is just now emerging. I anticipate it goes straight to BOLT! Yes, we will have to hang our hats on summer!
