My yellow squash on one of my plants start developing then turn a dark orange. Picked one today and it had a very small hole and a critter of some sort. Not sure if this is related but here's a pic of a Zucchini too. Spots and doesn't seem to be developing any further.

I had spots like your zukes on my tromboncino squash last year but I just ate around them. Never found out what they were.

Scars of some sort on the zukes. Probably from chipmunks or some other critter nibbling in the young fruit.

Might have been a bird pecked at them. They seemed to quit growing. The yellow squash are really bugging me. I have a few only 2 inches long turning orange like that one. All are on one plant that has made some nice big yellow ones.

I'm going to cover my zukes and Delicatas with netting this year for the first time. SVB appears around June 18th in my area. I hope it works.

I have a couple of mint plants in pots near my squash plants to get the mint from. Don't know if that deterred the SVBs and squash bugs or weather it was the 30-40 mph winds we've had most of the spring. Now it seems the rain has set in. Probably going to get rid of my zucchini plant as it is struggling and think I know why now. Hasn't flowered in a while so going to start over, it's a long growing season this year.

You think it is SVBs?  Because those scars on the zuke look like local bite-type damage...I would eat it.

Is the plant itself looking good?  No wilting?  Blooming?

I think you are correct about the scars on the zucchini. The zucchini plant has been loosing leaves for a while now. Turn yellow and dry up. Thought it was PM but not so sure now. Two of the yellow squash plants wilted and died in about two days. Found signs of SVB on those. Didn't bother to dissect them, burned em. A month or more ago I found places on the stem of the zuke that looked like something had gnawed on it and it quit producing flowers. I'm thinking the yellow squash were infested and the bigger zuke maybe only has a few. Hasn't had any flowers in a week or two and seems to be going down hill. I'd take a pic but it's raining cats and dogs. Maybe tomorrow.

I usually don't see SVB until this month. yes, it definitely raining cats and dogs here in Denton. I got caught out there on those flooded streets today. Sorry for the loss, but there still time to plant again.

I actually saw an adult flying around my squash yesterday. Nasty looking critters. When I culled the two there were the bore holes in the stalks so I'm pretty sure that's what was wrong. The one I have in the five gallon bucket hasn't done anything significant so no containers that small any more. Here's a pic of the ones I have left. Still raining so not going to get the camera wet to get a better pic.

no hail, just tons of rain. I was fortunate. I don't think there was any report of hail in our area yesterday. Any hail in SA? Is the aquifer back to normal yet? Our lakes are down slightly, so we need the rain. It will rain till Monday.

Very Happy

I'm sorry you had to lose the squash just to make the chickens happy.

Has, I'm glad it doesn't rain pitchforks anymore. Some of the bore holes I found were not near the base of the plant but about half way up the stem. Keep that in mind when looking for signs. I still have my experiment with the yellow crookneck in the 25 gallon container. It's about 8-10 inches tall. Found this video for all of us squash growers.

I was surprised when I found borer holes up much higher than I had expected to find them also. I had also meticulously wrapped foil around the base stem to keep them out that year. And then the following year I wrap netting all around the stem and they still went in up higher.
Mad
This year I will cover the whole bed and try to keep it tight.
