Turnips and Pallets.... "What"?
I know. I know ... I've already posted that we've had 3*F weather here in zone 6a but it felt so good to go out in my hoop house today and pull a few turnips for dinner. I pulled some carrots a few days ago and have many more to doing great.
Now.. for the GOOD stuff. My hunny and I went to our local Rural King store today and found FREE pallets. The smaller ones are hardwood. 3 of them are 18x24 and one is 24x40 ins.
These things are beautiful. I Googled "Pallet furniture" today and got some great ideas. There's some great ideas on furniture and also "pallet planters". Check it out.
Not sure exactly what I'm going to do with these little beauties yet but I'll figure something out.

Nice! Turnips, and, um, the score, pallets! Boot provided for scale, as CC would say! Keep us posted on your pallet project!

Nice looking pallets. Who could pass up grabbing them? Let us know what you do with them.
Re: Turnips and Pallets.... "What"?
I have been gathering pallets for a few months now and my back yard looks like a lumber yard. I was on Craigslist a few days ago and found a gold mine of pallets only about 4 blocks from my house. They are much to large to hand load and must be dismantled on site.
I took two of them apart last Wednesday and wound up with four new 12 foot long 2x6's, sixteen new 8 foot long 2x4's and a bunch of twelve foot 1x4's (also a lot of 4x4 cross members) and there's still six or seven pallets to be dismantled.
These pallets were used to transport huge slabs of marble.

Fantastic, since pallets vary in strength depending what's being loaded. My Home Depot lets me have their pallets but not the most valuable ones that carry loads of bricks and cinder blocks.

Mr. Booker, Unbelievable haul! Didn't we have a discussion about just a few more boxes?
Re: Turnips and Pallets.... "What"?
My back yard is full of boxes and I have no more room. I now have five 4x4's and seven 4x8's.sanderson wrote:Mr. Booker, Unbelievable haul! Didn't we have a discussion about just a few more boxes?
I just could NOT pass up those pallets. I'm planning on using the wood for projects like planters and pallet furniture.
My DW took me to Harbor Freight and bought me all the tools I'll need.
