Excited!!!
My daughter and I just went out scavenging in our small town. We got coffe grounds from the local convenience store and old produce from the farm stand store. We got pallets for free and my daughteris outside right now putting together the compost bin. All for free. I also got lumber that might be useful for making boxes. Woo Hoo

How wonderful! Last year DH picked up coffee grounds from Star$$ several times, and we piled them together to drain for a few days. When we went to combine them with our chopped leaves, they were already starting to compost -- HOT in the center of the coffee grounds pile! The finished compost has been great, too. Best of luck with your new compost bin!

I often see postings for free pallets on Craigslist. Of course this will vary by area, but it's definitely worth checking!

Pallets.....
Our house is literally in the middle of an industrial complex. Our neighbor company has a pile of junk pallets and I'm fortunate to be able to scavenge it whenever I want. This is soooo much fun!!!!!

Oh, how I miss craigslist. I'm in a small town 2.5 hrs from the nearest CL. There are no totally free local classifieds. Everything here costs money. It's the strangest little money hungry bunch of locals I've ever run into, and I've lived lots of places...

WOW, in western Nebraska? How odd. I grew up in McCook (near the SW corner) and most folks there will give you the shirt off your back just to be neighborly. Sorry about it, wish I could help you somehow just to give you a better impression of Nebraskans. What town are you in?
