Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Rain, rain, rain, and more rain. Been raining here since last Wed, the 3rd. From the 3rd to the 7th, I recorded 11 inches and it's raining now as I post this. Most of the major interstates are shut down around St Louis, Mo. It's getting almost as bad as the 100 year flood of 1993.
My poor sfg's are sitting in 3 to 4 inches of water. I put the plastic over the hoops but they're soaking up the water from the bottom. Rain is supposed to end today.

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Things are frozen again this morning. I hope this is the last! Some of my hop plants are over 6 foot tall, but I'm thinking of cutting them all back today and starting over. They are looking pretty rough. All my flowers and everything else seems fine so far.
Should be in the 70's today and 80's over the weekend

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Unlike a lot of places, we've been in and continuing a warmer than normal stretch for the last few days. High in upper 60s and low 70s, lows not below 40! Tomorrow we should see 80 and some lows of 50s next week! This is exceptional considering my last frost date isn't until may 20th. Not willing to risk it quite yet with warm weather crops as I have a feeling we might still have a hard freeze this year. Waiting a few weeks won't hurt anyway.

Cool and rainy here; pretty much continual rain through Sat with even cooler temps. Chance of snow flurries Fri/Sat.

Hi in the 50's, breezy and sunny today. I'm hoping the weather forecast is correct and we'll get torrential rain starting tomorrow. I just sowed and emptied many old packets of radishes, beets, bush beans and such in anticipation of it.

I just realized I had my dates wrong. ANYWAY.... it's been raining here for the last 8 or 9 days and I recorded another four inches yesterday bringing the total to about 15 inches.MrBooker wrote:Rain, rain, rain, and more rain. The rain quit during the night. Going out and take pics today. I pulled radish's and onions and cut a salad yesterday evening and there was a lot of water standing. It drains pretty well as the SFG's are sitting on top of where my in-ground garden was years ago.sanderson wrote:Photo of the floating garden?? High 80s yesterday, forecast of around 60 today.
Around 9:00 last night, we had a two-hour (!) electrical storm (dry lightning, I think it's called). However, there was no thunder at all.

I finally quit raining last night. Seems like everything survived except a few cukes. I put the plastic over my hoops today to warm the MM up. I'll remove it tomorrow before it gets to warm. I jumped the gun and put down a heavy mulch to early.newbeone wrote:Sorry to here You're getting to much rain, I feel left out! my rain barrels are empty. It's been over two weeks.
I was going to post a bunch of pics today but I'll wait til tomorrow after I take the plastic off.

SR, sorry to hear about the water in your basement. Lots of flooding and wet basements around here. I watched a news report from a nearby town which showed a couple coming down the middle of a street in a boat. Water was up to the windshield of a parked car. Hundreds have had to evacuate their homes and there is no end to the rain until Tuesday. I went out and made some channels in the lawn for the water to get away from an area near my foundation.

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Yeah, thanks, TD...I know I really have no real problems. It is just a slick of water, but still...just a pain. Others really have problems, here as well....it can stop now. My 4 sump pumps are doing all they can. I have an issue that is not the basement per se, but rather a drainage issue. Bilko Door that is the source of all the rain...drainage redirection needed...yay.trolleydriver wrote:Scorpio Rising wrote:Rain. In my yard, basement, just everywhere. Sucks.

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Sorry to hear about your minor flooding, SR. That's a pain.
It's been wet here, too. The creek invaded the backyard lawn.
But there's enough slope that this isn't a problem vs the house/basement. I wonder how long before it cuts off an oxbow. I watched the birds for awhile, snagging tiny "flood victims" from the edges of that puddle. I went out to check on things during a break in the rain and rescued a few beetles from the flooded lawn area. I found a piece of robin eggshell, which means my under-the-deck robins have probably hatched at least one. In the garden, some of my plants look like they got bruised by heavy rain this morning, particularly the claytonia - and it's raining hard again now. Poor plants. I did find the slug that has been harassing one of my dwarf kale. The lettuces seem to be enjoying the cooler temperatures:

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Cold, around the freezing mark today and some snow flurries. The really bad thing is the flooding caused by rising water levels in Ottawa River and Gatineau River. Hundreds of people, homes and businesses are affected. On the Quebec side of the Ottawa River the military has been called in to help.

I live in the same area as TD. Major flooding here in several communities. Everyone that lives on the Quebec side of the city has been asked to stay home to not put too much water on the bridges, which are surrounded by water. I'll take a pic of the Ottawa river to post when I get to work.

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
27F this morning, 22 yesterday morning. I fear that some of my apple and cherry blossoms were nipped.
According to our local newspaper, The Bend Bulletin, December temps were 7.8 F below average, January, 7.6 F below average, February warmer, March 4.8 F below average, and April, .4F below average.
I wonder whether this constitutes a trend? So far, May is predicted to be fairly cold, as well.

South wales UK Great Britain .
We had had including today three glorious days of " Tee " shirt "sun that's followed a long cold dry spell . We've have the driest February , March & April since 1979 apparently .
I've finally managed to " spring clean all the veg beds ..not a wed in sight ( Ha Ha ) & spent most of yesterday checking pout all 40 or so micro spray watering heads as some sort of bug likes to lay an egg some where in the beds It then stays & eats my veg once it turns into a caterpillar . As the weather turns cooler yt then sneaks away in the now not used spray nozzles jet hole & turns into a well spun cocoon mode & blocks the jet . They are a PITA to take apart & extract the cocooned grub .
I've also managed to sow 9 square feet @ 16 carrots per square of main crop & late Autumn carrots . I'm about three weeks behind in doing this early April task .due to the cold sunless weather in April .
In 14 days time I'll do half a bed of late autumn carrots " Karnant " as well . They resisted carrot fly strike well last year & have been harvested right thorough to the first week of April .
We have the possibility of a light air frost tonight & tomorrow so all un planted geraniums *& other half hardy annuals have been wheeled back int the green house where they can stay for another week or so
Tomorrow all the 20 drippers & 15 or so spray heads in the glass house will be checked & the time clock set up .
It seems Spring has finally sprung , for we have been able to have three days of cutting our Asparagus spears . tomorrow they will be getting a light liquid feed as well as having he auo watering setup on them

Hydro Ottawa released new footage of the water flow on the Ottawa River at Chaudier Falls. The flow has exceeded all measurements for the past 100 years. There is still a 30% chance of more rain for 4 of the next 5 days and then 60% on the 6th day.

Our daugter-in-law has to cross one of the bridges from Ottawa, Onatrio to Gatineau, Quebec to get to her government job. She had today off and will get tomorrow off because the office is closed and the local authorities are trying to keep people off the bridges.

I talked to my family in Southern Illinois, same things happening there! Major interstate highways closing, bridges closing. I think it may be better now. Here in Idaho there was a lot of flooding in Boise last week, all the canals, rivers and lakes are really full and still a bunch of snow on the peaks!trolleydriver wrote:Hydro Ottawa released new footage of the water flow on the Ottawa River at Chaudier Falls.
