One of my favorites!! Don't have any this year as my plants froze out... but next year! I also like it's cousin, Golden Cherokee. Nice tomato!!
Re: cherokee purple...seed to dish
Looks fantastic Jimmy. I've had Black Krim and wonder if you've had it too. Can you compare the flavor to your Cher. Purple?

JimmyCee,
Your cherokee purple tomatoes look gorgeous! I have been growing them for the past couple of years and they are delicious. I also grow Black Krim. I grow several types of heirlooms and find they are so delicious.

Re: cherokee purple...seed to dish
My coworker left this on my desk Friday after I was gone, then she went on vacation for a week so I won't know the variety until she comes back.
Could it be a Cherokee Purple? I'm hoping so because I have those in my Amazon cart to remind me that that I want to save some seeds when one shows up.
I can't get the right color with my camera, but it's not red. The color looks the the images of Cherokee Purple that I see online except this one has green shoulders instead of the deep purple shoulders that some of the images have.
If not Cherokee Purple, what else could it be?

Really? Never tried them. You got me on "sweet." I'm all tomatoed out for this year, but Cherokee Purple is now on my list for 2018.jimmy cee wrote:started these in march..I have 14 plants maturing. A sweet delicious taste and I'm hooked.
Re: cherokee purple...seed to dish
Cherokee Purple was the variety I recommended to folks that liked the taste of Brandywine but wanted more than three or four fruits per plant (which happens often in this climate).

Re: cherokee purple...seed to dish
Here are a couple of my Cherokee Purples. I think they look a bit more like CC's than Jimmy Cee's maybe. They are the only ones of my tomatoes that have cracked. (so far) I've really tried to keep the SFG watered evenly, although it's kind of hard to tell. MM never feels soggy to me, always just nicely moist. We did have one torrential downpour, so I don't know it that one storm might have been enough to cause the cracking. Anyway, they're the biggest of any of the ripe ones that I've picked so far, so that makes me really happy. One is 13oz, and the other is 12.6. I haven't tasted them yet, I'm saving them for dinner.

Re: cherokee purple...seed to dish
It's nice to see pics of both Brandywine and Cherokee Purple growing successfully in other Regions. I gave up trying to grow these favorites in this area.
Brandywine Tomatoes
I tried for 2 years to grow brandywines. I gave up over the winter and put my last plant outside to die. It didn't. The main plant failed, but sprouts started coming up from the base, so I began watering it again. When the weather got too hot, I brought it in and made a houseplant out of it.sanderson wrote:It's nice to see pics of both Brandywine and Cherokee Purple growing successfully in other Regions. Now it's trying to form tiny buds and blossoms.
As soon as this next mini heatwave is over, I'll start putting it out for a little sun every day. Who knew that brandywines are really shade-loving, cool weather perennials?

Looking Good
This is my first year with them too, I have learned rather quickly to pick them before ripening too much.
Beautiful tomato.

Beautiful, HG and SQWIB!
I'm going home tonight to try mine. I need to save the seeds, too, in case I like it. I don't know what it is yet but it sure looks exactly like the ones in this thread. So excited!
CN, I've never seen anything like that Brandywine plant on your table. That is SO weird!

Are you saying it might not even be a brandywine?CapeCoddess wrote:

Re: cherokee purple...seed to dish
The two have similar shapes. It is in the color. Cherokee Purple are typically purplish brown almost, whereas Brandywines are red or pinkish. They taste very similar in my opinion. Rich, sweet.

AAARRRGGGHHH!!!!! It's not a brandywine -- it's NZ Spinach! I can't believe I've wasted all this time on something I don't like and can't even foist off on the rabbit. It goes in the compost tomorrow at the toe of my shoe! The worst part of this stupid story is that I still don't have a brandywine tomato plant.countrynaturals wrote:Are you saying it might not even be a brandywine?CapeCoddess wrote:

Re: cherokee purple...seed to dish
Thanks for the good laugh from your description. I have 'planted' new things too then waited and waited only to realize later I must have pulled the authentic plant and nurtured a gorgeous weed. It happens and its funny later on. At the moment of discovery its not so humorous. You will have your brandywine next time! Are you saying it might not even be a brandywine? wrote:AAARRRGGGHHH!!!!!
