Cherokee Purple tomato ?
Do you have any info regarding this tomato ? Cherokee Purple.
I've been reading a bit about it and would like to grow a few this season.
An indeterminate; folk lore has it, Cherokee's were growing it 100 year ago

Thank you for your offer, very kind of you.
I like their prices both on items and shipping.
I'll place an order with them and add those tomato's.

Re: Cherokee Purple tomato ?
My notes from 2015 for CP: "sweet, striped" They will be in the bucket brigade again this 2016 season.
Re: Cherokee Purple tomato ?
If you haven't bought seeds yet, might I suggest Indian Stripe if they have that? It's supposed to be more productive than Cherokee Purple with the same taste.
I grew Cherokee Purple, maybe 5 years ago? and I remember taste was good, texture was good, but they get overripe quicker than others. For me CP was right on mid-season for ripe fruit.

I love cherokee purples! They do seem to split easy but that doesnt bother me personally.

Re: Cherokee Purple tomato ?
I bought Cherokee Purple this year to try! A podcast I listen to, Chicken Thistle Farm Coopcast, said it's one of their most productive tomatoes they grow (and they grow a lot), which is good news for me because I live very close to them. I bought a Cherokee Purple tomato from the store to try it before buying the seeds, and it tasted very good!
Re: Cherokee Purple tomato ?
I think Cherokee Purple is a good example of contrasting grocery store verses home grown tomatoes. For mass marketing, the growers need uniform tomatoes that will keep during their shelf/bin time. In a home garden, one can run amok with weird shapes, splitting, short "shelf" times, and various flavored tomatoes.
Re: Cherokee Purple tomato ?
In the book "Tomatoland," best book I read last year, a tomato seller complained that he got reviewed on his tomatoes, including a cherokee tomato, which, he said, he'd never put up as representing a top-flight flavor profile.

I'm tryin' 'em too, LS; got my seeds from Pinetree (superseeds.com). What the heck, right? They are pretty, and I can't get them at the store here. They are bound to be better than those store things touted as tomatoes!

Re: Cherokee Purple tomato ?
Hi, Marc. Can you post this book under Winter Reading? I read the review and just ordered it off eBay.
I was at the grocery store yesterday and found a small area with an assortment of heirloom tomatoes. I bought one that I thought was a CP but is probably a Black Krim. Only $3.99/lb. Just a winter treat.
