I am sooooo glad to have found a regional site! As all of you well know, gardening in Florida is unlike anywhere else in the country. The pitfalls of Florida gardening are unique and only those who have strove and failed and tried again only to be rebuffed by a hooting Mother Nature (in flip flops, sunglasses and zinc oxide on her nose) know what I am talking about.
I am planning on starting a SFG in Dunedin in October. What words of advice to you have for a SFG newbie? Thanks

Flelderlaw, Welcome to the Forum from California! There are many threads under your Region so at least you have some good reading until it's time to start the garden. I've read that the 3 summer months are really hard on plants. If you are suffering in the humidity, they will also. This is a good time to find plants/seeds for veggies that are appropriate for your area. Southern Exposure has a catalogue and that may be a good place to start. If you have harmful nematodes in your area, elevated beds may be a good option. Check with your local university cooperative extension.

I don't have much in common with California but I follow your happenings with interest, as most of do here. One never knows if I will end up there.

The attached link is your local extension office and they can give you information on planting times and suitable vegetable varieties. http://pinellas.ifas.ufl.edu

flederlaw. My first garden was in Southern Florida (St. Pete). Now I'm a CA gardener (hotter and dryer). Lots to read, here. I'm sure you'll be ready by October.

Welcome Intrepid. I am just above you in the Atlanta area. Sometimes our weather conditions are similar to yours, so I can benefit from peeking at the Florida threads.
I want to echo Sanderson's comment about Southern Exposure Seed Exchange. They are a great seed resource for us Southerners.
Again, welcome and keep us posted regarding your gardening efforts!
