$10 hot house...?
My wife went to Rural King today to but me this hot house for $20. When she checked out, they only charged her $10.

$10 hot house
This is about the third time Rural King has under charged us. Maybe some products are on sale and they havent marked the shelf price down yet. The hot house goes together with no tools needed and is quite sturdy and has two full length zippers in front.

Re: $10 hot house...?
I picked up something just like this at Home Depot a few years ago. After just one season, the plastic vinyl material became brittle and just flaked apart from sun damage. It was great for that first season, but now it just serves as a shelving unit sans the enclosure.

Re: $10 hot house...?
I figured it would come apart pretty quick. Maybe I can wrap it with some 6 mil plastic when it comes apart or as you say, it will make a decent shelving unit.GrowRunner wrote:I picked up something just like this at Home Depot a few years ago. Couldn't one spray or wipe on a UV protector? Like that stuff for cars?

Re: $10 hot house...?
It's hard to see, but I think the size of the shelves accommodates the 10" x 20" seedling trays. So even if the plastic deteriorates, you can use it to harden-off seedlings. Just be careful, the super clear plastic allows so much sun in that it can overheat very easily (son's experience).
Re: $10 hot house...?
I had one of those type shelving units with the plastic. I put it on the very edge of my screened in porch. When we got a good blowing rain storm, the unit would get wet. After a couple of years the poles holding the braces rusted thru. Even though they were coated in plastic, it finally gave up. I hardly ever used the plastic cover so now I have a plastic cover and no shelving unit. Someday I should buy another unit then I will have two plastic covers. Watch out because a nice stiff breeze will blow it over. If you leave it in the yard, better stake it down.

I forgot about them blowing over in the wind. My son has a fenced back yard but it was no match for wind. Stake or weigh it securely.

Someone in the New England thread, NHGardener, has one and she absolutely LOVES it.
