Hello from New Hampshire
Hi all - I'm Sally from New Hampshire. I have a much-loved copy of the original SFG and was excited to discover online that the movement is still going strong.
As President of the local land trust I've been working for nearly 2 years to establish a park in our village with community gardens as a major component. I've wanted to start community gardens in this community for more than 30 years--there has been a great deal of doubt over whether a town with 2-acre and 5-acre minimum lot sizes actually needs and will support community gardens, but the response has been enthusiastic. I am very excited that our very first allotments will be planted in a few weeks (we're still 8 weeks from our last frost date, but it's been a nearly snowless winter so everything is opening up already).
Many of the gardeners will be complete newbies, and I'll be encouraging them to try SFG right from the start.
For my part, I'm gradually down-sizing my 60x40 garden as my household is down to 3, and thinking that getting back to the SFG model is probably a good idea for this aging body.

A warm welcome Sally from Ottawa, Canada. What part of NH are you located in? We have friends in the Walpole area. I guess that would be the South-West part of the state.

Well I often tell people south west, but I'm an hour east of Walpole, so in that context I guess we're south central.

How exciting about your community garden start up! Are you encouraging the All New Square Foot Gardening method or the original Square Foot Gardening method? Most of us on the forum are using ANSFG but I have 3 'old school' SFG's (as I like to call them ). Which one will you be using at home?

Hi Sally. Welcome to the Forum from California! Ditto on reading All New Square Foot Gardening. Things have changed, most notably no dirt and only 6" high.

Welcome from Ohio, Sally! Sounds like lots of gardening in your future, congrats on getting your community garden happening! I agree, grab a copy from your library of the ALL NEW SFG, give it a read, will save you a ton of work, and better results, IMO. I have done the original, too, and though it was a vast improvement over row gardening, the ANSFG is better.

Hello there NHinsider! Welcome to the forum from Fayetteville, GA (20 miles south of Atlanta). When I have time, I love to come here and "talk shop" about gardening. I have a really small operation, but I love working with what I have. Everyone here is so helpful. I think you will really enjoy your time here. Again welcome, and I wish you much success with you gardening endeavors!
