our garbage pile
Long before I ever heard of a compost pile e had a garbage pile. My grand father piled up his garbage and he had a lot. veggy trimmings egg shells left over food coffee grounds along with any thing else that needed throwing away. he had a word that he ahd heard on the news and misunderstood or maybe understood fully. it was bayou-degradable. and that is what he judged his garbage pile by. Don't put anything in there that dont rot in the bayou he said.
Our current pile is full of house hold garbage. some trimmings from our big wisteria vine. and is currently completely covered with a several inch thick of lemon rinds and pulp. On top of that will go dead banana fronds and spring trimmings from our fruit trees. Any thing too big to rot will get chopped up for the fire pit. I always have a dint in the middle where I put coffee grounds the worms love the stuff and that makes it easy to round some up for fishing. The garbage pile is totally maintenance free and the only time it gets sorta stirred is when I remove a wheel barrow full, or dig up some bait. This pile is super simple and almost a necessity if ya garden and has been keeping our boxes well fed and full for 15 years now. We don't call it composting because that infers a process. So instead we are garbage heapers
