Garden is in!
This morning was spent in the SFG as well as fertilizing my trees. I dumped my compost from its trash can home onto a tarp, took all the finished compost and mixed it into my garden. I was able to add compost to my entire 4x4 box. Planted spinach, radishes, kohlrabi, kale, and Swiss chard. I am so excited to be getting started!

Compost from your garbage can.
You mention dumping your compost from your garbage can. Did you compost it in there? How did that go for you? How long did it take? Just wondered because I am trying hot composting using three aluminum garbage cans. I am rotating them every day, keep one empty, rotate through. Any advice on this would be great. Thanks!

I use a black vinyl can with holes cut into it for air circulation. I started last spring when I began my garden. I keep an old cat litter container (nice heavy plastic with a sturdy lid and handle) in my garage and dump all my household compostables into it. When it is full I dump it in my trash can, add a layer of shredded newspaper and mix and wet it. If I think of it I will turn it and wet it in between, but I don't usually, and once I have a certain amount it is too heavy for me. But I had enough finished compost to dig into my garden this year, and about 1/3 of a can of partially finished to start with for the year. I am only using it in my SFG and only have one 4x4 box, so that is sufficient for me and workable as well.

Herb - I'm doing the same thing! My first yr....I used an old garbage can, drilled holes all over, and I rotate it once or twice a week by rolling it around.
I also use a big, sturdy cat litter pail for my compost! great minds think alike.
