Celery? Empty Celery?

Anyone have any experience with celery?  I hadn't even considered it until now.  Wondering when to plant and how many per square?

NH Gardener does celery and I wanted to get her take on it so thanks for starting this thread. Maybe I'll PM her & see if she'll post some info. All I know is it takes a really long time, and some extra water I think.

I've never grown it from seed, but I've had success with rooting celery stumps starting around this time of year so that come spring (May-ish for me ), I put them in the ground and they go from there. Word of caution: Slugs love them. They seem to do best for me in part- shade and they take a veeeeery long time to mature into something useful. HTH Celery? 3170584802

Got lots of water and patience? Celery was the most frustrating, slowest thing I have grown yet. It didn't like late frosts (left inedible, brown centers on stalks) and right when it looked like it was ready, it bolted. Don't let it go to seed unless you are willing to put up with lots of seedlings popping up next season.

If you're going to root the stumps, make sure you're using organic celery. Who KNOWS where it's been grown and what's been used on it...

Hey, Kathy! I have zero experience growing celery, but you might want to take a look in the Archives section here. If you go up to the top of the page, on the left will be a search box, type Celery in there, and there are 28 threads already on here about growing celery! It is a treasure trove of experience and information!

Sounds like a slow grower, from what I gleaned from our SFGers....I am not a patient gardener! Unless it's tomatoes! LOL
