I have 2 1/2 compost bins.  two of them are 3 x3 x3,  27 cubic feet. one is about half that.
I move them around whenever the spirit moves me and that's often.
3 weeks ago I had lots of extra stuff so I started shoveling everything into the 1 empty bin.
Just about filled to the brim with everything I could throw in.
In 2 days the pile was at 130 deg F, I ran my aeration tool through every 2 - 3 days.
3 weeks later
Today I picked up a lot of discarded veggies and added them to the empty bed, that had lots of pears from our pear tree. In the meantime I started forking the material that was apparently finished into this pile.
While doing this I find that most all of the material, (except for some twigs, a few veggies that were still intact )
was finished..
This finished pile was so loaded with zillions of worms, some in warm areas, others in cool areas.
I'll try to get some pictures in a couple of days, just remember compost piles need not be huge to work.
I only had 30 to 36 inches all the way around.

Jimmy Cee - is your aeration tool homemade or did you purchase it.  Can you recommend a good tool to purchase.

How would something like this work with dowel for a handle.

This is the tool I picked up at Lowes.
http://www.lowes.com/pd_72804-46916-61768___?productId=3309220&pl=1&Ntt=compost+aerator

It does ok, however the wings do not always open up, when they do it sometimes appears hard to pull up.
I suppose that's because I go to the bottom and want to pull the entire pile in one pull.
That gotta stop. maybe a third of the way down will be best, and add a few more attempts.
Your diagram looks as if it would be and easier method as it should lower itself each revolution.
Thanks for the tip, I think I'll try one at our local Tractor Supply..
All in all I believe the best method is transferring the entire pile..even though for some reason my piles get heavier each year.

I have an auger attachment for the electric drill. Similar to the kind used to mix texturing for walls.

I've been searching for one of these, can't seem to find one that I think would be large enough.
