Love their smell! But they are too large for my small lot and don't seem to be good for pruning into a shape. I had to remove mine.

Sanderson!

There are a few dwarf varieties of lilac, which grow only 4' - 6' tall.  Check out the Bloomerang series, which bloom past the usual springtime timeframe.

Not suitable for my zone. Sad I was so hopeful when you suggested it. I'll have to research for another dwarf suitable for Zone 9.
