We had a square of Romain under a net box, they were just getting going, about 3 inches, but when I checked this morning one plant has been eaten....as in gone right down to the ground with just a stump left. Must be a crawler, or digger, to get inside the box but I dont see any signs of a culprit and there is nothing on the other 3 plants in that square (yet). Any ideas?

Gosh Sunsanvil, can you post a photo of the whole box? Not sure it would help but who knows. Nothing eats my romaine except me & my neighbors, not even slugs. A bunny would if he could get to it though.

Check your neighbors for green in their teeth.

It might sound like a joke, but I had one jerk neighbor steal stuff out of my garden where we used to live.  He stopped when he saw me in my yard cleaning my Glock.

I believe it.  I have concerns about that with my garden's location.  My neighbors frequently overflow into my large backyard for games, cornhole, etc.

No tears in the netting? I had my covered greens raided by a critter once, but he had to chew through the shade cloth to get in there.

Re thieving neighbors, there's a guy on youtube who suggests growing unusual crops that many people will not know are edible -- like tomatoes that are ripe when green rather than red, oddly colored beans or eggplant, etc. Whether you yourself would want to eat those crops is of course another story.

Anyway, I hope you don't have scummy thieving neighbors.
