Newbie Box Question
Hello, I am looking to start a SFG, but I just measured my box and noticed it's 40X40. I have 2 of options (maybe more that I am not thinking of), but I am just curious what would be the recommended setup for this size box?
1) 4 x 4 w/ 10 square inch planting areas (concern - too small)
2) 3 x 3 w/ 13 1/3 square inch planting areas (concern - too big)
Thanks!

I would use the 3 x 3 squares. I will be interested in others' preferences.
Again, Welcome!

Pippet, Welcome to the Forum from California!
If you make your grids with 12" x 12" squaresthen you will have 4" of extra space on 2 sides. You can always plant something that is 9/sq (radish, beets, short variety carrot, or a dwarf marigold) in the "trim" areas. Or just make a grid for 9 equal squares. Better to have them larger than smaller.

Re: Newbie Box Question
Thanks for the input! I think I am going to go with 9 equal squares @ 13 1/3 inches.

Hi Pippett2. Welcome from Atlanta, GA. Glad you've joined us!
Agree that too big is better than too small.
Have fun!

Re: Newbie Box Question
I would go 3x3 too, and plant some small flowers like marigolds in the extra space between plants.

Re: Newbie Box Question
That would certainly help w/ bug problems!
You could also do small beets, radishes, spinach, a couple of bush beans...
