Newbie Question #5

I sm fully committed to this new way of gardening but I'm old and skeptical. Now that I have planned my garden, I keep thinking - how will a pepper plant fit into (and stay) in one square foot? And eggplants? And nine! bush beans? I read in the book about tying something around the beans to keep them contained. I read Jimmy Cee's posts about plant cages but I'm not real handy. How does everyone keep their peppers (I'm planting a lot of peppers!) within their space and not falling over? Likewise other similar plants that "bush out". Do you stake them? I haven't seen any cages twelve inch square. I did a search and read a lot but other than making my own wire cages, I didn't find anything about this. Thanks and I hope I am not asking questions that have already been answered.

Just addressing peppers, I stake them. When they are about 10", I also top them (pinch off) so they bush out. Peppers don't mind company! Very Happy

I bought little wire fencing pieces at the 99 Cent Store to corral the onions, garlic, and bush Dragon Tongue beans. Does this help? What other plants are you concerned about?

Yes, helpful. I am thinking of the bush beans and eggplant mainly. I already have plans for vertical support for cakes, squash and tomatoes and plan to put a large square tomato cage around my 3 corn and one sunflower squares. I will look for that fencing you mentioned. I like Jimmy Cee's cages but not sure I can make them. Thanks.
