May in Northern California & Coastal Valleys
May in Northern California & Coastal Valleys
I just took on the role as the Reginal Host for our area. Right now there are only a few of us from Northern California & Coastal Valleys posting but wouldn't it be great if there were more of us?
What are you up to in your SFG this May? We are starting to get nice warm weather. I, for one, would love to see your garden pictures and hear about your plans for the garden this month!
Let's get talking.

Re: May in Northern California & Coastal Valleys
This week we ate our first SFG vegetables. We had spinach and swiss chard (which I had replanted from my dirt vegetable bed). They were very delicious and amazingly clean from the garden. (I am used to mud caked garden vegetables.)
In our dirt bed, we had our first few sugar snap peas and a couple quarts of strawberries. We were getting berries about the size of a pea. I put some compost down and they improved a lot. After they are done for the season, we will move them to a SFG bed. I can't wait to see the difference it will make!
Here are a few pictures of my garden...
Kind of hard to see but the tomatoes on the left are about 9" tall. Chard & Spinach in far SFG along with cucumbers, broccoli, peppers, eggplant, carrots and lettuce.
The bed on front has 3 summer squash and a long row of beans.
Here is a different angle of the cucumber trellis I made. It has conduit for the sides and top (like in Mel's New SFG book) but I made a lattice from left over bamboo I had laying around. They are attached with those nylon zip things.
