Northern California Coastal & Inland Valleys - Water Salinity
Northern California Coastal & Inland Valleys - Water Salinity
I decided to create a separate topic for this subject so that it doesn't impact the seaweed / sea salt discussions in the New England Region. The geological creation of California has a built-in salinity problem, as measured by EC (Electrical Conductivity) or TDS (Total Dissolved Solids). Decades of agriculture and husbandry, consumer use, irrigation, moving water supplies throughout the State, industrial uses and discharge have added to the problem of salinity. It's a very complex problem. Ergo, I use seaweed sparingly, just a little for trace elements. I hope to make a compost pile with seaweed or crustacean shellfish once this coming summer, to use sparingly in the boxes and more heavily in the ground flower beds I am enriching.
