Are Brussel Sprouts slow to grow?
I planted them on August 17th and it did sprout within a week but honestly, it is not more than 1/4 of an inch taller than when it sprouted and still only has two little leaves. Please advise

Re: Are Brussel Sprouts slow to grow?
I planted one lonely brussel sprout plant a week ago and it seems to be growing O.K. ... I'm in zone 8a and I really shouldn't have planted it until Sept. 15. But I've been covering it (& the whole 4x4 box) with a sheet for a few hours during the hottest part of the day (95* today) so I'm hoping it will be fine.
What zone are you in? Brussel sprouts are cool weather plants and don't do very well in the heat. If it's hot, maybe try covering it around noon?

Youngatheart-Thanks for replying. I am also in 8A and we have had some unexpected very hot days. I did cover during the hottest time of day during the heat wave. Everything else seems to be thriving but the Brussel Sprout. I guess I will keep and eye on it and see if it progresses or not.

Re: Are Brussel Sprouts slow to grow?
Brussels sprouts are very slow growing, well over 110 days that I planted. I planted mine in April and hope for harvest in October& November. They also like quite a bit of nitrogen. Click here for a previous thread about Brussels Sprouts.
